A tension brews behind these walls
I feel that we are changing
there's a certain hope that's bound to fall
of desperate hearts kept waiting

above it all there reigns a fear
the old pain's not forgotten
once the risk made our choice clear
but now our will is rotting

Permission's so much like a threat
when held by those in power
patiently they make their bets
they watch and let doubt flower

if they can catch and crush our hope
they'll offer their salvation
the acceptance of the hangman's rope
to relieve this degradation

Death is what we ran from there
and patiently it follows
pushed by time towards despair
the self is stale and hollow

it completes the equation
the mind collapses, something cracks
and heeds the blade's persuasion
